New Law Alert: California Consumers Legal Remedy Act
Effective July 1, 2024, California’s new “Honest Pricing Law” (SB 478) will significantly change how businesses disclose pricing to consumers. SB 478 aims to increase price transparency by prohibiting the practice of adding surprise fees to a transaction at checkout. Businesses will now be required to disclose all mandatory fees in the advertised price of a good or service for personal use. The law does not apply to transactions of goods or services for commercial purposes, or to specific transactions and industries that are already regulated by other pricing laws.
What This Means for Businesses
Businesses must adapt to this new law by ensuring all mandatory fees are included in advertised prices. Reviewing pricing practices now and making necessary changes can help avoid potential legal issues and protect your business’s reputation!
